Leicester City sent brutal Enzo Maresca message after ‘wheels are falling off’ claim

Leeds United and Ipswich Town are ready to pounce after the Foxes are thrashed for the second game in four days, throwing the Championship crown race wide open.

Angry Leicester City fans turned on head coach Enzo Maresca after their club lost for the second match in four days to struggling opponents.

In midweek, Millwall defeated the one-time Championship title leaders 1-0. Mustapha Bundu of Plymouth Argyle scored the game-winning goal in the first half.

Foxes fans were left extremely furious after watching chance after chance go begging, with the main culprit, Patson Daka, also having a first-half shot ruled out.

Despite the setback, Leicester remain top, though this might change when Ipswich and Leeds United play their weekend games.

Third-placed Leeds can leapfrog City if they beat Blackburn in the noon game, while Ipswich simply has to draw with Middlesbrough to become top, albeit the Foxes will have a game in hand following the weekend fixtures.

Former Foxes player Matt Piper summarised the game for BBC Radio Leicester, telling listeners: “It feels like the wheels are falling off… there was a casual arrogance to certain players’ performances.”

It was a theme reinforced by supporters as they reflected on the results, but the most of their ire was reserved for Maresca and his apparent refusal to adapt his style of play as Leicester battle to end the championship race.

Match Report: Plymouth Argyle 1 - 0 Leicester City - Fosse Posse

Here is what some of them have been saying on social media…

Mel Browning: When people label us bottle jobs, there’s nothing we can say to defend the team. We do not deserve automatic promotion.

Fox50: I’ve never felt more distant from this football team as I do now. I don’t like 90% of these players because of their mentality and approach. And we have a manager who is so adamant that he doesn’t realize his style is killing and draining this team. Enzo needs to leave.

HaIf Turn: Absolutely disgraceful once again. Players do not care because they will be off in the summer, and it shows with each passing loss. An embarrassing bunch.

Leah believes that entering the play-offs is futile due to a lack of spine.

Jon Lee: Millwall and Plymouth both scored zero points. Cheers, Enzo.

Words: We are terrible. Might as well rest the first 11 for the remaining games and prepare for the playoffs.

Matt Sibson: #EnzoOut before it is too late. Can we afford to spend another season in the Championship? Because that is exactly what is going to happen. We had four shots on goal in 90 minutes and never looked like scoring. Predictable. He’s a Poundland Pep who has been exposed.

Jonathan Hales: No changes to the plan; keep playing, Daka! Maybe switch the wingers for 20 minutes to attempt something new and different. Consider playing four at the back with overlapping full-backs. It has been weeks of the same. A manager gets his or her praise when we require them to make changes.

ODJLCFC: Thanks for making me cry for the first time in ages, fellas. I hope you are proud.

Ben Adams: Refund the fans. That was disgraceful.

MK: Worst moment watching LCFC in the previous decade. It’s time for Khun Top to make some huge adjustments!

Ben: Enzo’s persistence will cost us the promotion. Complains about too many games, yet refuses to field the league’s most costly squad. If Plan A doesn’t work, try it again. Woeful for months.
