Breaking: EFL now make big decision that will impact Sunderland

EFL teams have unanimously approved a new domestic rights contract with Sky Sports for the 2024/25 season.

EFL teams have accepted a domestic rights contract with Sky Sports to broadcast over 1000 matches per season beginning in 2024/25.

The arrangement will last five years, until the 2028/29 season, and will include guaranteed payments of £895 million plus £40 million in marketing advantages. The new arrangement, which was unanimously accepted by EFL clubs, marks a 50% increase over the previous agreement, with a total of 1,059 EFL matches scheduled to be aired across existing Sky Sports channels and streaming devices.

Sky will transmit at least 328 Championship matches, 248 League One matches, 248 League Two matches, all 15 Play-Off games, and all 127 EFL Trophy matches each season. The agreement will also benefit Premier League supporters, who will be able to watch all 93 Carabao Cup matches.

A Sky Sports statement read: “Each League weekend fixture round will feature ten live EFL matchups. Five matches from the Sky Bet Championship will be screened, and fans of Sky Bet League One and League Two teams will now have more coverage than ever before, with five of their games broadcast live. For the first time, fans will be able to watch all Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy matches.”

The new agreement will allow UEFA’s Article 48 prohibited broadcast period rule to stay in effect. This implies that broadcasted matches will not be displayed between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on Saturday afternoons.
