According to reports, Maurizio Sarri has rejected down a post in Russia in order to take over at AC Milan ahead of next season.
The Russian website Championat (via TMW) released a report this morning on who could be Spartak Moscow’s next head coach, claiming that Sarri had been contacted about the position.
As a reminder, Sarri is currently without a club after leaving Lazio a few weeks ago, but the source claims that the Italian turned down the offer since he had a more appealing offer on the table.
Going into the specifics, journalist Maxim Nikitin mentioned Sarri in a broader update on the future Spartak coach, considering that they are sixth in the league and may fire young Spanish coach Guillermo Abascal.
“There is a huge list of potential Spartak coaches, including some noteworthy names. For example, Maurizio Sarri is not simply someone’s dream: he was on the list since he is now unemployed, but as far as I know, Sarri stated: ‘Guys, in the summer I will head Milan’. “And Spartak is less appealing to him,” Nikitin remarked.
However, we must take this claim with a grain of salt, especially given what more credible sources have said. For example, according to a report on the Sky website earlier this month, Pioli has created enough strong form in the second half of the season to maintain his post.
