‘Unexpected’- Sky Sports pundit makes score prediction for Leeds v Sunderland

David Prutton has given his prediction for the Championship match between Leeds United and Sunderland on Tuesday night.

The Whites lost their first league game of 2024 against Coventry, dropping out of the automatic promotion places, while Sunderland drew 0-0 with Bristol City in their most recent appearance.

However, with the fight for promotion so close, Leeds know that a win may propel them to the top of the table depending on other outcomes, and Prutton told Sky Sports (9 April) that he expects Leeds to win again at Elland Road.

“That was a real setback for Leeds at Coventry, but it wasn’t hugely unexpected with it being such a tough trip,” he stated in an email. “They need to recover rapidly, mind.

“But this is a kind fixture since Sunderland is simply trying to make it to the conclusion of the season. This should be a home victory. Leeds 2-1 Sunderland.

Leeds United have no room for error now

Leeds’ spectacular run in 2024 propelled them to the top of the Championship, and many predicted that they would automatically return to the Premier League as a result.
But, much like when Leicester’s lead was reversed, sport has a weird way of teaching you that things are not always as they appear, and they currently have only one win in their previous three games and are third.

Daniel Farke knows the Championship better than anybody else, having won it twice with Norwich, and the race now appears to go down to the wire between the Whites, Leicester, and Ipswich.

There is no room for mistake in this race, and Leeds must go all out to win their final five games, beginning with Sunderland at Elland Road.

If they can find a method to do so, they stand a good possibility of succeeding in their bid to return to the top flight.
