According to Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, Joelinton appears to be close to signing a new contract with Newcastle United following a breakthrough in negotiations.
In the second last line of his in-depth exclusive, he highlighted how a decision on Big Joe’s future might play a critical part in retaining Bruno Guimaraes at St James’ Park for ‘at least one more season.’
The two are close friends and Brazilian citizens. Joelinton was Bruno’s best man at his wedding last summer, and their families have developed a close connection.
They have a fantastic relationship both on and off the game, and Edwards claims that Joelinton’s impending new four-year contract has enhanced our chances of retaining Bruno with the club for another year.
He also believes it sends a strong message to several of Newcastle’s elite players, demonstrating a commitment to retaining our finest players and paying generously, with Joe set to become one of our highest earners.
Eddie Howe stated in a news conference last week that the club must demonstrate ambition to persuade our big stars to stay, and this is a step in the right direction.
A release clause of almost £100 million may exist in Bruno’s contract, and summer interest is unavoidable, but retaining Joelinton at the club and qualifying for Europe may just tilt the scales in our favour.
