Agent of 28-year-old confirms move is now possible amid Milan talks

Mario Hermoso’s time at Atletico Madrid is coming to an end, and the defender’s agency has spoken about the potential of him joining Serie A.

Milan is likely to intervene in the defense position during the forthcoming summer transfer window, given that injuries have plagued them this season and Simon Kjaer’s contract is set to expire.

However, further investments will be required, such as a new striker to replace Olivier Giroud and most likely a new central midfielder, which may stretch the budget (net of any major sales).

That is why the concept of grasping an opportunity like Hermoso has emerged. Sources in both Italy and Spain say the Rossoneri are interested in the 28-year-old, whose contract ends in June.

Hermoso’s agent, Inaki Espizua, was interviewed by CN24 (via Calciomercato.com) and asked about his client’s future, including the chance of it being in Italy.

“Mario Hermoso is a player who is doing very well and who has grown a lot in these five years in Madrid, he is now finishing his contract with Atletico Madrid,” stated the Spaniard.

“It is not a given that he would leave to play elsewhere, but when a contract is signed, all parties must have a same project, and we are currently far from renewing our contract with Atletico Madrid.

“Mario wants to play in the top league and does not want to rule out any opportunities. He wants to play for important trophies and ambitions, so we’ll consider any projects that come along over the next few years. This is the player’s aspiration.

“Serie A is absolutely a possibility for Mario in the next years. Napoli is one of the Serie A teams that offer appealing opportunities for players. Napoli is a fantastic club that won the Scudetto last year and has a rich history.

“I don’t want to comment about individual clubs in Italy because I respect all of them, but Napoli is undoubtedly in Serie A, and the Italian league may be a respectable destination for Hermoso.

“Inter are also a great club, but they exited the Champions League because they left the qualification open [by only winning 1-0 against Atletico in the first leg] and because it is never easy to face Atletico Madrid and the Champions League.”
