Duke men’s basketball star reveals he will enter transfer portal

The first domino falls.

After redshirting this season due to a nagging ankle injury — and surgery — that forced him to miss 13 games, sophomore center Christian Reeves told On3Sports Wednesday afternoon that he intends to transfer, freeing up his three remaining years of eligibility to play for another program.

Reeves struggled for playing time in Durham, trailing Dereck Lively II, Kyle Filipowski, and Ryan Young in the post. When he was on the floor, he largely served as a support player, allowing the starters to rest while without compromising size down low. In 16 games over two seasons at Duke, Reeves averaged 1.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

Reeves’ departure would be the Blue Devils’ first of the offseason following their Elite Eight loss to N.C. State over the weekend, as well as the first outbound transfer during head coach Jon Scheyer’s tenure. With an entering class filled with big men like top-overall recruit Cooper Flagg, projected lottery pick Khaman Maluach, and four-star rookie Patrick Ngongba II, Reeves’ chances for minutes in 2024-25 were slim.
