The Buffalo Bills are looking for a receiver, and LSU has two first-round possibilities ready to be selected. Will either make their way to buffalo?
Everyone and their mother is mocking a receiver chosen by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the NFL Draft. That feels more certain now than it ever has.
There are no guarantees on draft day, but given the departure of deep threat Gabe Davis and the unceremonious trading of star Stefon Diggs, it would be foolish for Buffalo not to take a receiver with an early-round pick.
Fortunately for the Bills, this draft class is stacked with receiving skill, particularly around selection No. 28, where they now sit. The top three players in this class are Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., Washington’s Rome Odunze, and LSU’s Malik Nabers, none of whom will be available without a trade at the top of the draft.
Nabers, on the other hand, may be able to predict where his teammate, Brian Thomas Jr., will fall.
While livestreaming on Instagram, Nabers made a humorous remark about Thomas getting taken by Buffalo.
“Brian Thomas…” “I believe he will be a Buffalo Bill, y’all,” Nabers added with a giggle. “Buffalo Bill!”
Nabers made the lighthearted remark between swallows of his drink, as if implying he knew something. It’s unclear if he does or not, and he’s certainly not being picked for his ability to speculate, but selecting Thomas makes a lot of sense for general manager Brandon Beane.
Obviously, the Bills must assistance at receiver, particularly both positions on the perimeter. Thomas excelled as an X receiver for the Tigers and has a size/speed profile that is difficult to overlook. At just under 6-foot-3 and 209 pounds, Thomas’ 4.34-second 40-yard dash was impressive, and his explosiveness measurements supported it.
Thomas is a true deep threat who excels at stacking defenders downfield, but his speed and agility give him the potential to have an impact underneath, after the catch, and across the middle of the field. There are certainly concerns about his route tree and toughness, but he is skilled enough for Bills fans to clamour for him even before Davis’ departure was announced.
Thus, it’s no wonder that, according to the NFL Mock Draft Database, Thomas is the most often mocked Buffalo prospect. He is followed by Texas’ Adonai Mitchell and Oregon’s Troy Franklin, both of whom are among the second-tier receiving prospects in this year’s class.
Perhaps Nabers knows something we don’t, but for the time being, Thomas can reasonably be mocked in Buffalo with the idea that the Bills will sign someone from that group of receivers, even if the LSU star ends going elsewhere.
