Sky Sports pundit gives one-goal score prediction for Sunderland vs Bristol City

Sunderland will host Bristol City in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Sunderland return to the site of Easter Monday’s crimes, when Blackburn Rovers won 5-1 in the Championship.

Sunderland suffered their worst Easter Monday defeat in 65 years, making for a depressing atmosphere inside the Stadium of Light.

As we start the final six games of the 2023/24 season, the Black Cats are presently in 13th place, with the Robins in 12th.

Bristol City, led by Liam Manning, have won three of their last four games, including both of their last two; they defeated Leicester City 1-0 on Good Friday and Plymouth Argyle 1-0 on Monday.

Sunderland’s previous meeting with Bristol City this season ended in a 1-0 loss at Ashton Gate.

The previous time the two teams met on Wearside, they drew 1-1, with Jack Clarke scoring that afternoon.
Sunderland has 16 wins, 15 draws, and 18 losses in their history against Bristol City.

However, the Black Cats have not beaten Bristol City at home since 1994, with two draws and one Bristol City triumph at the Stadium of Light since then, during the 2017/18 Championship season.

David Prutton score prediction for Sunderland vs Bristol City

Sky Sports commentator David Prutton predicted the score for Sunderland’s game against Bristol City on the Official EFL Podcast this week.

He said:

“Bristol City to win. 0-1”

Simeon Gholam, another Sky Sports analyst, projected a 3-1 win for Sunderland.

This Saturday, a win for Mike Dodds’ misfiring side might put them ahead of Bristol City.

Under their interim manager, the Black Cats have won only one of seven games, with one win in the previous nine and seven defeats.

Mike Dodds needs immediate reaction after Blackburn Rovers

Dodds was plainly frustrated following the Blackburn defeat, as he should have been.

Sunderland were terrible that day, and at a time when fans are already becoming dissatisfied with the club’s ownership and management, that type of defeat was surely unnecessary.

What we need now is a reply.

Sunderland still has some quality players, and the return of Clarke might propel the Black Cats to victory at Bristol City.

And a few wins at the conclusion of the season would help them prepare for the summer.

Sunderland still has to choose a manager and sign players in the transfer market, but being in terrible form heading into the summer will not help either.

Saturday’s match against Bristol City will kick off at 3 p.m.
