Nottingham Forest’s bold point deduction claim after Everton’s development.

Nottingham Forest will be optimistic that they can successfully appeal their points deduction.

On the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke stated that the Reds would not have submitted an appeal for their four-point deduction if they did not have a “chance of success”.

Forest received the fine last month after an independent committee determined that its three-year losses until the 2022-23 season exceeded the permissible threshold of £61 million by £34.5 million.

They then filed an appeal, hoping to lower or abolish the sanction.

While no official verdict date has been set, it will come no later than 24 May – five days after the end of the Premier League season.

That means Forest, who sit three points below the drop zone in 17th, could have to wait until the conclusion of the season to learn whether or not they are relegated back to the Championship.

O’Rourke insisted that such a scenario would be a “joke,” but added that Forest’s appeal is “risky” because they could face another deduction for a frivolous appeal.

“I think we’ll want the appeal to be decided pretty soon,” he said on Inside Track.

“We don’t want to be in a situation where we don’t know who will be relegated after the season ends.

“That would be a joke in the Premier League.”

“Forest must believe that they have a reasonable prospect of success; otherwise, they would not have.

“I just think it’s hazardous on their part, given that the Premier League panel docked them two points in their initial decision for participating with the probe.

“There was a warning that if there was a frivolous appeal, there would be additional points deducted.

“It’s risky from Forest.

“If I was in charge of Forest and seeing where we were in the table, even with the four-point deduction, I still would be confident that they’d stay up.”They’ve undoubtedly watched Everton’s successful appeal for their initial charge.

“The pressure is now turned back on the Premier League.”
