“Nonsense” Eddie Howe responds to Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes is, as usual, generating headlines.

The Brazil international has been fantastic for Newcastle United, and with so many of his colleagues missing so many games, he has really kept things together in midfield.

In addition, he has greatly improved his discipline.

With a two-game Premier League ban looming, he received nine Premier League yellow cards in January’s defeat to Manchester City, his sixth in a row (in all competitions). Bruno Guimaraes has now gone 12 games without a booking in all competitions, beginning with the FA Cup triumph over Fulham. He must now navigate this Fulham match and then Spurs to avoid a tenth yellow card in the first 32 Premier League games and an inevitable two-game ban.

Bruno Guimaraes is well-known for more than simply his performances and discipline.

There is a regular stream of claims that NUFC’s number 39 will be moving on this summer, with Newcastle United wanting to trade him…

Newcastle's new addition Bruno Guimaraes: 'We want to win the Champions League'

On Friday morning, Eddie Howe was asked about the ongoing Bruno Guimaraes speculation regarding leaving this summer, according to Sky Sports:

“Let me tell you, players like Bruno don’t come around every corner.

“They are extremely rare.

“He should be appreciated for everything he brings.

“”My objective is to retain Bruno with the football club for as long as possible.

“But I can never make any guarantees because that would be extremely dumb.

Who knows what the future holds?

“But our role in this is to attempt to make the players feel at ease and happy.

“Develop them, develop their talents, develop their careers, and hopefully that’s enough to keep them here for a long time.”

Eddie Howe’s words will likely lead to skewed headlines such as ‘Eddie Howe admits no guarantees Bruno Guimaraes is staying…’.

The Newcastle United Head Coach is not saying that.

I believe it is safe to state that Isak and Bruno are Newcastle United’s finest two players, so why would Eddie Howe and NUFC want to sell either of them instead of squad players who will not be in the first eleven next season?

If players are sold to balance the books and, more importantly, give Newcastle a greater reach when it comes to bringing in players, the amortisation side of things allows you to spend far more on new signings if you so desire, in addition to the actual transfer fees generated. Why sell your team’s heartbeat, Bruno Guimaraes?

Bruno Guimaraes’ words and deeds continually demonstrate how much he enjoys being at Newcastle United. Will he leave someday? The vast majority of players do quit their clubs at some point in their careers, and Bruno Guimaraes is unlikely to be an exception. However, I feel it is unrealistic to expect Bruno or the club to push for this this summer.

I am confident that Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak will be looking forward to next season and demonstrating exactly how formidable Newcastle United can be with a nearly full first-team roster.
