Newcastle United have reportedly shifted their attention to the summer transfer window, with PIF looking to provide Eddie Howe with the reinforcements he needs to get the Magpies back into European contention.

Ahead of the transfer window, speculation about incomings and outgoings at St James’ Park has already begun, including Alexander Isak. The Swedish attacker has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, which would be a significant blow to Howe and Newcastle, given Isak’s quality and the fact that his departure would leave them with only one striker, Callum Wilson.
Meanwhile, on the incomings front, the emphasis appears to be on finding a backup for Nick Pope, with Martin Dubravka now 35 years old and out of contract in summer 2025. So far, that search has led St James’ Park to Middlesbrough shot-stopper Seny Dieng, with the Championship club’s asking price allegedly less than double the £2 million they spent last year.
Aside from Dieng, a new target has developed. According to Sport Bild, PIF and Newcastle have made contact with Alexander Nubel about a possible summer transfer. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has had a fantastic loan spell at Stuttgart this season, stepping up to demonstrate the talent required to eventually replace the legendary Manuel Neuer. He might now be Pope’s understudy at St James’ Park, though.
Nubel, who is 27 years old, could become Pope’s successor, despite the fact that he is already 31. The fact that the German’s contract at Bayern is set to expire in the summer of 2025 may give Newcastle an advantage in discussions, as the Bundesliga club runs out of time to cash in on their goalie.

Although Pope only recently broke into Sean Dyche’s Burnley side, he is now in his thirties and might provide an issue for Newcastle this summer, particularly as he returns from a dislocated shoulder injury. However, Nubel’s arrival would allay anxieties at St James’ Park, since he has more than proven himself in the Bundesliga.
