29-year-old hints he won’t play for Newcastle United next season

Isaac Hayden, a Newcastle United midfielder, has dropped a significant clue about his future in the North East beyond this summer.

Hayden, a 29-year-old Newcastle United midfielder, is presently on loan at Championship side Queens Park Rangers, where he has made 11 appearances since joining in January.

Hayden, who joined St James’ Park in 2016, fell down the pecking order under Eddie Howe owing to repeated knee injuries.

After achieving success at QPR, he is now eager to make his move permanent, expressing interest in joining the Hoops. He mentioned this during a recent interview with Newcastle World.

Newcastle United - Hayden's reaction after Seagulls stalemate

“It’s a situation in which me and the club [Newcastle] will have to sit down in the summer and decide what we want to do. I had to accept a wage cut to join QPR, which I was happy to do for the final few months of the season in order to obtain games.

“But it’ll be back to square one in the summer but hopefully I can help keep QPR up and would love to stay here if possible.”

The former England youth international has made 171 appearances for the Magpies, but he may never have the opportunity to add to that total.

It appears that Newcastle will split company with Hayden this summer. The midfielder has not played in the Premier League for Newcastle since the 2020/21 season, and even then he only made 14 appearances.

His last competitive game in a black and white shirt was against Manchester City in December 2021, where he was defeated 4-0.
