Alan Brazil has slammed Newcastle defender Paul Dummett after he gave away a penalty against Everton at St James’ Park, which allowed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to salvage a point in the 1-1 draw.
The former Ipswich Town player admitted that he had no idea what goes through players’ brains in such situations, and that Eddie Howe would be furious.
McCoist mirrored his sentiment, admitting it was an obvious penalty and a rash action by the defender that cost his team a point at home in a game they should have won.
Brazil fumed live on talkSPORT [3 April, 06:24]: “What was dumb and dumber Dummett doing in the Newcastle v Everton game?” What are you doing there? I simply don’t comprehend players. He pulls an Everton player off the ball and wrestles him to the ground.
McCoist expressed his thoughts: “I know, it was madness. Absolute crazy. It’s ridiculous; you have no idea what’s going through their heads. It’s a penalty all day; I’m not sure what he’s thinking.”
Brazil then resumed his rant: “Dumb and dumber; I shouldn’t call him that, but his management will wonder, ‘What are you doing, you clown?’ The ball was nowhere near the Everton player, who wrestled him to the ground. “It was ridiculous.”
Paul Dummett slammed after mistake in Newcastle v Everton
A foolish foul off the ball lost Newcastle all three points, and Brazil will share the sentiments of many Geordie fans this morning, questioning what Dummett thought he was doing when he committed the mistake.
Everton and Calvert-Lewin will take these types of moments all day. A important point in a close relegation battle at a stadium where many fans go empty-handed, and the striker’s first goal since October sent them home satisfied.
Calvert-Lewin has recently come under fire for his lack of goals, but Alan Shearer assured that if he scores, the goals would come. Sean Dyche and the Toffees’ fans will be hoping this is the case now.
Sean Dyche will keep an eye on Everton updates.
A point proved essential as Nottingham Forest won all three in their battle with Fulham, moving just one point behind Dyche’s side, who have also moved four points clear of Luton in the bottom three and have a better goal difference.
