AC Milan are poised to recruit a new central defender once the transfer window reopens, with Maxence Lacroix emerging as the top target, according to reports.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Simon Kjaer may leave the club at the end of the season when his contract ends, therefore management is already considering replacements in that area.
The name Lacroix stands out. He spent several years playing for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, where he gained valuable experience. His name had also come up during the winter window, when there was an injury issue.
There were some conversations with the Frenchman’s entourage, but in the end, the Rossoneri returned Matteo Gabbia and decided it was enough. However, Lacroix’s profile has been in the Rossoneri’s orbit for some time.
According to the article, Milan’s sports director, Antonio D’Ottavio, has recently traveled to Germany to take a closer look at Lacroix, demonstrating that the club’s interest in the player is genuine. As always, the parameters determine the success of an operation.
Lacroix is currently valued at approximately €20 million. He was purchased from Sochaux for €5 million in 2020, but due to his success in Germany, his price has quadrupled. His contract with Wolfsburg will expire in 2025, allowing the Rossoneri to try to negotiate a bargain, as they risk losing him for free next year.
There is also Italian rivalry for the player, primarily from Juventus. Milan is also keeping an eye on Alessandro Buongiorno of Torino, despite the fact that his asking price is far higher.
