Milan could now sign free goalscoring European striker

Former AC Milan midfielder Valon Behrami has pushed the club to sign Mauro Icardi this summer, believing he might be the striker to knock Inter off their perch.

Following Milan’s victory over Fiorentina on Saturday night, there was a discussion on the DAZN broadcast on who could be Milan’s starting striker next season, given that Olivier Giroud is expected to leave.

Behrami, a former Fiorentina midfielder, expressed his sentiments in the studio, begging the Rossoneri to bring Icardi back to Serie A after leaving Inter for Paris Saint-Germain a few years ago.

“If you look for an anti-Inter team in the future, you’ll find it in Milan. With this coach and an additional 2-3 players. Objectively, they have the smallest deficit compared to Inter,” he stated (via PianetaMilan).

Emanuele Giaccherini, Marco Parolo, and Alessandro Matri also participated in the argument, which proceeded as follows.

Behrami: “Icardi would gladly return to Milan and become Milan’s top scorer, beating Lautaro. Icardi has a strange attitude, is very frigid, and never feels responsible, despite the fact that he has received a lot of criticism. “He is an extraordinary player.”

Giaccherini said: “Milan need a striker who scores at least 15 goals, and Zirkzee isn’t that for me.”

Parolo, on the other hand: “Zirkzee gets 15 at Milan easily and makes others do many of them thanks to his technique.”

Matri: “I’d like to venture with the name, Lewandowski. Milan has had Ibra and Giroud in recent years, which contrasts with the youth approach. If Barcelona chose to get rid of him and renew the team, it would be a huge gamble. I also like Sevilla’s En Nesyri, but if you ask me, I’d say Icardi is among those proposed.”

Icardi is at Galatasaray and scored 22 goals and seven assists in 24 league games last season, while he has 18 goals and seven assists in 27 games this season. He also scored five in the Champions League in 2023-24.

From 2014-15 to 2018-19, he scored 22 league goals for Inter, followed by 16, 24, 29, and 11. Last month, La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that he is a legitimate and inexpensive candidate to be Giroud’s successor.
