‘Big reality’ – Mikel Arteta’s intriguing response to Newcastle United transfer links

Mikel Arteta believes Aaron Ramsdale will stay at Arsenal next season, despite widespread talk that he could be leaving the Emirates Stadium. Ramsdale has been Arsenal’s second-choice goalkeeper behind David Raya this season, appearing in only 11 games in all competitions.

With Raya poised to join the club permanently in the summer, Ramsdale is expected to leave the north London club, with Newcastle United among those connected with a move. The Magpies have not had a good defensive record since Nick Pope’s injury, and Ramsdale, who worked for Eddie Howe at Bournemouth, has been extensively linked with a move to the north east.

However, Arteta recently shot off those rumors, adding, “You know I’m not going to comment on those things.”

The Spaniard was then asked if there was any indication that Ramsdale will remain at Arsenal next season. He said, “Any suggestions? Aaron will undoubtedly be here because he is our player and has a contract.

Ramsdale has only played in the Premier League against Brentford, Raya’s parent club, since early September, and is unlikely to dethrone Jordan Pickford as England’s number one ahead of the European Championships in Germany this summer. However, Sam Johnstone just suffered a season-ending injury, and with Pope anticipated to be out until the final few weeks of the season, Ramsdale, despite his lack of first-team games this season, is likely to travel to Germany as Everton’s deputy.
