Anthony Gordon shares ‘Ridiculous’ verdict ahead of Newcastle v Everton

Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon lambasted the “ridiculous” red card he received, which means he will miss a reunion with Everton.

Gordon was sent off late in Saturday’s (30 March) exciting 4-3 victory over West Ham at St James’ Park after receiving a second yellow card.

The 23-year-old was sent for kicking the ball away, which referee Rob Jones deemed an act of time-wasting.

When queried about the decision, Gordon is cited in The Mirror [1 April] as saying, “I tapped the ball away.

“How far do you want to look into that? It’s incredible. To get sent off for tapping a ball five yards.

“To be honest with you, I believe he booked me because he was unaware that he had previously booked me. To be honest, that’s not good enough.”I do not want to whine about referees because they have a job to do. They are the rules, so he is following the game’s rules and laws, yet it is ludicrous.”

Gordon would have wanted to play against Everton, but it was not to be on this occasion.
The verdict appeared harsh at the time, but the referee was eventually following the rules of the law.

Given the game’s chaotic character, several players were on edge, and it showed in the latter phases.
Aside from the circumstances surrounding his departure from Goodison Park, Gordon has done an excellent job at Newcastle in his first full season.

The England international has nine goals and six assists in 28 Premier League appearances, and he will undoubtedly be missed by United.

That is therefore fantastic news for the Toffees, and ideally it is something they can take advantage of at St James’ Park on Tuesday (2 April) following their disappointing loss at Bournemouth.

In other Everton news, ‘D-Day’ is coming to Goodison Park, according to reports on Sunday (March 31).
