AC Milan now leading race to sign “impressive” 22-year-old

AC Milan has surpassed Manchester United in the hunt to sign Bologna sensation Joshua Zirkzee, according to Fussball.news.

The Serie A heavyweights are now leading the race to recruit the 22-year-old striker, whose performances for Thiago Motta’s overachievers have piqued the interest of several European clubs.

Zirkzee has been in excellent form for La Rossa this season, with 11 goals and six assists in 30 games across all competitions.

His impressive form has fuelled speculation of a move to the Premier League, with United and Arsenal being mentioned as prospective destinations.

However, Milan has pushed itself in the hunt for his signature, and Zirkzee’s desire to stay in Serie A gives the seven-time European winners an advantage.

Bologna will want for roughly £35-40 million for Zirkzee this summer. While that may be affordable for United, they must persuade the striker to leave his comfort zone for the highly competitive Premier League.

United should move for a more experienced striker

Rasmus Hojlund has established himself as Erik ten Hag’s starting striker.
He had a difficult start to the season, but has been blazing on all cylinders since the New Year, scoring 13 goals in all competitions.

With Hojlund now finding his feet in the Premier League, he has demonstrated that he has the potential to lead the line for United for the foreseeable future, and Zirkzee’s presence may impede his development.

United would be better off recruiting a more experienced striker who would not impede Hojlund’s development while still capable of producing results.

Serhou Guirassy, the striker for VfB Stuttgart, meets the characteristics. The 28-year-old has established himself to be one of Europe’s most prolific strikers, scoring 24 goals in 22 games this season.

He has an intriguing release clause that makes him available for £17 million this summer, making him a less expensive choice than Zirkzee.
