‘There’s no doubt’: Alan Shearer makes ‘another job’ claim for Eddie Howe

As Newcastle United continue to suffer, Alan Shearer claims Eddie Howe could be linked with a new job.

Howe has been under a lot of strain recently, with Newcastle hovering around mid-table in the Premier League ahead of a big game against West Ham.

While the Newcastle board has continued to put their faith in the head coach, Shearer, speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, believes that a new opportunity for Howe may arise in the near future.

Shearer thinks Howe could be set for new role in management

Newcastle have recently been connected with a number of managerial prospects, implying that if Howe is let go in the coming months, the club may pursue a major name.

The 46-year-old has shown no desire to quit the team he led to the Champions League, but there is one post in particular that he has been associated with over the last five years or so.

Gareth Southgate appears to have one major tournament left as England’s head coach, after which the FA will be looking for a replacement, and Shearer believes they may approach Howe.

The Newcastle manager’s circumstances may have changed by then if the club finishes in the bottom half of the standings, but for the time being, he is wholly focused on his role at St James’ Park.

Regarding Howe, Shearer stated, “The obvious one last season was Eddie Howe, but you know how football works. He led Newcastle to fourth place last year, and while they’ve suffered this year, everyone would have picked him last year. There’s no question he’ll be mentioned if and when the England position opens up.”

Despite continuous suggestions that they would attempt to bring in someone like Jose Mourinho to assist them end their trophy drought, Newcastle have showed tremendous support for Howe, even at his lowest point.

Those at the top of the club recognize that things have been difficult for head coach, who has dealt with numerous injuries this year, limiting what he can accomplish on the field.

Newcastle has also been unable to reinvest in their squad during the most recent window due to Premier League financial constraints, but they hope to be major spenders this summer and assist Howe bring the team back into Europe’s premier competition.
