Newcastle suffer new injury during international break – Early fears player is out for the season

Newcastle United have been dealt yet another injury setback, with Lewis Miley becoming the latest Mag to suffer an issue.

The 17-year-old sustained a back injury while on England U20s duty and will have a scan when he returns to Tyneside.

Early indications suggested he could be out for six weeks, but The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards reports that there are concerns he will not play again this season.

We won’t know the entire extent until the scan results come in, but the club will be wary of hurrying a young youngster back from such an injury while he is still growing.

It is thought that club officials have been mindful of his workload, which could explain why Sean Longstaff has played with a knock ahead of him in recent weeks, although he has normally played a lot of games for his age due to our injury crisis.

Miley’s injury comes after it was announced last week that Sven Botman would be out for six to nine months following ACL surgery, while Joelinton, Callum Wilson, Nick Pope, and Sandro Tonali are still out due to injury or suspension.

In better news, Kieran Trippier, Harvey Barnes, and Tino Livramento could return against West Ham this weekend after missing the FA Cup defeat at Manchester City.
