According to one mock draft, the Kansas City Chiefs might trade up to choose one of the top receivers in the 2024 class.
The Kansas City Chiefs added several nice players in free agency, and now that the most significant guys have signed, mock draft season has officially begun. The Chiefs are aiming for the first three-peat in NFL history, and they’ve made some promising moves to win the title in 2024. Chris Jones, the team’s defensive tackle, was brought back, while Marquise Brown was signed to a one-year contract that was favorable to the team. Their largest loss came in the secondary, where Kansas City traded L’Jarius Sneed for a minimal return.
With Sneed gone, cornerback is certainly the most pressing need on the squad. Trent McDuffie is excellent, but the Chiefs might use another defensive back. However, picking for need is a risky proposition, and sometimes the best defense is a good attack. In Chad Reuter’s most recent mock draft, the Chiefs trade up with the Los Angeles Rams to select Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Chiefs Trade Up For Xavier Worthy In Latest Mock Draft
Xavier Worthy the Prospect
Finally, the draft is about adding talented players, and Xavier Worthy is one of them. The first thing that stands up about Worthy is his game-changing speed. The Texas product ran the quickest 40-yard dash in NFL history, demonstrating his ability to score every time he touches the ball.
John Ross had held the NFL record for the quickest 40-yard dash, and he used his speed to earn a top-10 pick. Ultimately, he did not work out because the receiver could only run in a straight path.
This should not be a problem for Worthy, as the film indicates a well-rounded player with above-average footwork and lateral agility.
Xavier Worthy’s testing is awesome.
As we know, the film matters more. This is not just a track athlete. This is a football player and a playmaker. Some highlights here: pic.twitter.com/0KPJaRMuXk

Despite the high points, there are a few reasons why the Chiefs can select Worthy with the 19th choice in this mock draft. The wide receiver is tiny, standing 6’1″ and weighing 172 pounds. In terms of raw athleticism, people like Adonai Mitchell have a higher RAS score, which accounts for a player’s whole build. This lack of size becomes apparent in contested situations; if he is not open by two steps, you cannot give him the ball.
Is He A Good Pick In the Chiefs Mock Draft?
There is only one Tyreek Hill, and no one should expect Xavier Worthy (or any other receiver) to equal his performance. However, Worthy has the speed to replace Hill as the Chiefs’ deep threat. While Marquise Brown can fill that role in the near term, Worthy has the potential to be the long-term solution, which is why this Chiefs mock draft makes some sense.
The Chiefs’ trade is the greatest question mark in our mock draft. Anything can happen on the day of the 2024 NFL Draft, but as of this writing, most experts believe Worthy will be selected late in the first round or early in the second round.
According to the DraftTek value table, the Chiefs would likely have to give up their second-round pick to move up to the 19th overall pick.
In Reuter’s mock draft, Worthy is the fourth receiver off the board, implying that the Chiefs pass on Brian Thomas and Adonai Mitchell in favor of him. For what it’s worth, Mitchell is not a first-round pick in this draft, so how can Kansas City justify giving up a first- and second-round pick for Worthy when a comparable player would be available at 32?
