Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has revealed why the club is struggling so much this season.
The 26-year-old has refused to disguise his disappointment as he prepares to play for Brazil against England on Saturday night. He will be in action at Wembley Stadium, where he hopes to meet Newcastle United teammate Anthony Gordon.
Following the international break, Bruno Guimaraes will resume his Premier League duties. He claims that the Magpies have 10 games left to preserve their season and qualify for Europe.
It will be a vital season finale, and there is a chance it will end well if Eddie Howe’s team finishes strong.
So far, it’s been quite annoying. Newcastle have fallen short of expectations, and Bruno believes that injuries and bans are a major cause for their struggles.
Bruno Guimaraes expected Newcastle to endure tough season
Bruno has been speaking to the media about Newcastle’s season while on international duty, and he told the Hayters TV YouTube channel that the Magpies were certain to suffer at some stage.
“This season we have been struggling,” he told reporters.
“I believe we have numerous problems with injuries and suspensions. This is part of the procedure. When I signed with the club, I understood this would happen. I believe things transpired too rapidly. In my two years, we made it to the finals but did not win. But we made it to the Champions League after 20 years. It was huge for the club.
“We’ve struggled this season due to injuries and suspensions. I’ve never gone to a club with this many injuries. Some injuries have been exceedingly unusual.
“To be honest, I’m a little bit disappointed, but I knew that this would happen.”
Bruno’s attitude towards Newcastle’s struggles is very mature
Given Bruno’s talent – Eddie Howe describes him as world-class – it’s understandable that he’s frustrated with Newcastle’s performance this season. He is a Champions League-caliber player who should not be sitting 10th in the Premier League.
However, he recognizes that the team is where it is due to injuries, and Sandro Tonali’s suspension has also been a huge concern. And, more crucially, he recognizes that a relapse was always possible. Given how brilliantly we performed last season, Newcastle couldn’t match it. Even if everyone had remained fit, it would have been extremely difficult.
Yes, Bruno is disappointed. So he should be. In reality, every member of the Newcastle team will be. Eddie Howe would not have it any other way.
Bruno’s words, however, are realistic and mature. This is a project, therefore not everything will go our way.
This season is clearly not going our way, but it is not over yet. Newcastle has ten games to save itself, and Bruno will do everything he can to do so.
