Nathan Jones reveals if 26-year-old Charlton man will leave club

Nathan Jones, the manager of Charlton Athletic, has expressed a desire to continue working with George Dobson, but the South London Press reports that the terms of his Fehervar transfer are ‘binding’.

Dobson, Charlton Athletic’s captain, was the subject of intense transfer speculation throughout the January window. His contract expires at the end of the season, and he was in high demand due to his leading position on The Valley.

Ultimately, Dobson remained with the Addicks. However, he signed a pre-contract agreement with Hungarian side Fehervar, ending his three-year spell in South London.

Since then, the club captain has continued to play an important role in Nathan Jones’ side. Dobson has also continued to perform well, helping Charlton Athletic climb to 16th place in League One, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Jones is clearly a great supporter of the midfielder. Speaking to the South London Press, he showed a strong desire to continue working with Dobson and heaped admiration on the player. He said:

“He has been excellent. I appreciate working with him; he has been wonderful.

“There are many things that people believe he is good at that I want to take away from his game. And I know there are things he could have done better, such as scoring two or three goals. “I’m extremely pleased with his energy and demeanor.”We do not want any talented players to leave this club, and George Dobson is one of them.

Jones was then questioned about the Dobson-Fehervar agreement, and he stated that club secretary Ron Dangerfield or the Hungarian FA should be questioned about it. However, the South London Press reports that the terms of the 26-year-old’s contract with his potential new club are ‘binding’.

As a result, the only way Charlton Athletic can keep Dobson is to pay a transfer fee.

Looking into the future

Charlton Athletic would have delighted to keep Dobson. He is an important player for the team, and his leadership makes him valuable off the field as well.

In reality, he appears to be a player ready to progress from League One. Few would have predicted such a surprising move to the highest tier of Hungarian football, but it is a step up and a fresh challenge for a man who has previously played in Holland with Sparta Rotterdam.

Jones will have to handle Dobson’s exit at the end of the summer. Time will tell whether players already on the roster are tasked with replacing him or if they look to the transfer market for a new option.

However, his place in the starting XI will not be the only thing that needs to be filled. His absence from the field will necessitate the selection of a new captain.

Time will tell how the gap left by his departure is filled, as new pastures await Dobson.
