AC Milan is considering letting Danish defender Simon Kjaer leave the club at the end of the season in order to replace him with Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan), the Rossoneri are becoming increasingly unlikely to extend Kjaer’s contract. While they are primarily focused on renewing contracts with French duo Mike Maignan and Olivier Giroud, Kjaer is also awaiting discussions as his contract expires at the end of the current season.
Rather than retaining an injury-prone defender, Milan is considering injecting some youthful vigor into their defensive lineup by bringing in Buongiorno from Torino. Born in 1999, Buongiorno is not lacking in experience but offers potential longevity, being a decade younger than Kjaer. He has enjoyed a stellar season with Torino and was a subject of interest during the January transfer window.
An injury setback coupled with Torino’s reluctance to sell in January meant that Buongiorno remained with his current club. However, Milan and other clubs are expected to revive their interest before the summer transfer window opens.
