In the upcoming March Madness tournament, Duke has the opportunity to distinguish itself in various ways. Guard Jeremy Roach, when asked about this, highlighted several key aspects.
Firstly, Roach emphasized Duke’s depth and versatility, suggesting that their ability to utilize multiple players effectively could set them apart. This depth allows for strategic flexibility and the capacity to adapt to different opponents and game situations.
Additionally, Roach pointed to Duke’s defensive prowess as a potential standout factor. Strong defensive play can disrupt opponents’ strategies, create turnovers, and generate scoring opportunities for Duke.
Furthermore, Roach emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and intensity throughout the tournament. Consistent effort and execution, particularly in high-pressure situations, will be crucial for Duke to succeed and leave a lasting impression.
Overall, Duke’s potential to stand out in March Madness lies in their depth, defensive prowess, and ability to maintain consistency and intensity on the court, as highlighted by Jeremy Roach.
“I mean, that’s made us the team that we are today, and I feel like we’re the most connected we’ve been this off-season,” Roach said of the two in-state losses. “We had the most confidence heading into the tournament…” So we’re prepared to make this run.
Filipowski, a sophomore who is a predicted top-10 NBA draft choice and “can do everything, literally,” is a critical player for Duke, according to Roach. The 7-foot center averaged 17.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game during the 2023-24 regular season.
“He can post up, play on the wing, out the pick and roll in the pocket, and he’s the best passing big man in the country,” Roach said of Filipowski’s abilities.
Duke faces Vermont in the first round of March Madness on Friday, March 22, at 7:10 p.m. ET.
If the Blue Devils advance, they will face No. 5 Wisconsin or No. 12 James Madison in the second round, and maybe No. 1 Houston in the Sweet 16.
