Spanish striker Alvaro Morata has disclosed that AC Milan reached out to him during the summer transfer window regarding a potential move, alongside interest from other Italian clubs. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Atletico Madrid forward detailed a period where various teams were potential destinations for him.
Throughout the window, Morata was linked with Milan, Inter, and AS Roma, with contact from the Rossoneri about a potential transfer. Milan ultimately secured Luka Jovic on a one-year deal late in the window after pursuing several other strikers.
Despite ultimately renewing his contract with Atletico Madrid, Morata revealed that financial considerations played a significant role in the decision. “I was in a particular situation, with my contract with Atletico Madrid expiring. I renewed it by significantly altering my financial terms due to financial fair play concerns and the club’s wage structure, while also modifying the conditions for a potential sale,” he explained.
Morata further disclosed that he received a call from Milan but was also aware of interest from Juventus, Roma, or Inter, thanks to his good relationships with various coaches. While he was intrigued by the idea of joining Roma to team up with his close friend Paulo Dybala, the move did not materialize in the end.
“They [Milan] expressed interest, and then the coaches contacted me because I have good relationships with everyone,” Morata shared. “Allegri coached me, and the same applies to Mourinho, who also handed me my debut for Real Madrid. I was attracted to the idea of joining Roma, playing alongside Paulo [Dybala], and experiencing football in a passionate club and city akin to South America. With Inzaghi, we’ve known each other for years; we met on holiday. He’s an incredible coach and a wonderful person with whom it’s a pleasure to spend time, to be together, to converse. He exudes a lot of positive energy.”
