‘Incredible’ – £45m star set for Bruno Guimaraes reunion after decisions made on Newcastle United duo

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon is gearing up for England’s March friendly against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley Stadium.
Anthony Gordon is fulfilling his ‘childhood ambition’ by being called up to the England senior squad for the first time.

The Newcastle United winger trained with England at St George’s Park on Tuesday ahead of international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley Stadium on March 23 (7pm kickoff) and March 26 (7:45pm kickoff), respectively.

Gordon has been in excellent form in his first full season at Newcastle, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in 40 games. Gordon was approached shortly after arriving at England’s training site about joining the Three Lions squad.

“Just an incredible feeling,” he said. “A lot of hard work has gone into the season and just to be rewarded with a childhood dream was amazing.”

Gordon, a member of England’s youth teams from Under-18s to Under-21s, has 34 youth caps and was named player of the tournament at the Under-21s European Championships last summer. Despite a slow start to his Newcastle career after joining from Everton for £45 million in January 2023, the 23-year-old has improved since returning from the Under-21s Euros.

When asked what he is most enthusiastic about during the international time, Gordon replied, “Just being here and experiencing everything.

“Obviously, I’ve been here so many times with the youth teams but coming here as a senior is very different so I just can’t wait for that.”

Gordon is ready for a Wembley reunion with Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes, who is part of Brazil’s side that will face England on March 23.
