Breaking: Milan star now in advanced talks to leave club

It’s certainly pleasing to note that LAFC took notice of Waking the Red!

Following our recent stimulating article pondering the possibility of Toronto FC signing Olivier Giroud, Los Angeles FC seems to be on the verge of securing a deal with him. According to MLS insider Tom Bogert of The Athletic, LAFC is deep in talks with Giroud, aiming to bring in the all-time leading scorer for France once his contract with AC Milan expires this summer.

Giroud will have numerous choices in the upcoming transfer window, although it was intriguing to imagine Toronto FC as a potential destination. However, with LAFC holding Giroud’s MLS discovery rights, it appears they have the upper hand in acquiring his signature over other MLS clubs. Despite our preference for Toronto over Los Angeles, it’s clear that LAFC has a strong appeal.

The prospect of Giroud reuniting with his longtime French national teammate, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, at LAFC adds an interesting dimension. Additionally, Giroud’s arrival would bolster an already formidable attacking lineup for Steve Cherundolo’s team, featuring the likes of Denis Bouanga and Cristian Olivera.

Despite being 37 years old, Giroud has enjoyed an exceptional season with AC Milan, contributing significantly with 12 goals and eight assists in Serie A. His impact has been pivotal in Milan’s successful campaign, positioning them well in the Serie A standings and advancing to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Having previously excelled in the Premier League with Arsenal and Chelsea, Giroud’s move to AC Milan in 2021 has been fruitful, with the club clinching the scudetto in his debut season. Since departing England, he has tallied a total of 46 goals in Italy.

Giroud’s illustrious international career, including winning the World Cup in 2018 and reaching the final in Qatar, further highlights his pedigree. With 56 goals in 129 appearances for France, he remains a key figure in Didier Deschamps’ squad, set to feature in the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Chile.
