In January, the club proposed to build a temporary retail facility on the St James’ Metro Car Park. The site, which is close to the existing club shop at St James’ Park and the Strawberry Pub, is now vacant.

Newcastle’s planning authority is granted from March 18 to November 18, 2024. The land must be returned to its original condition by the expiration date.

The temporary club shop is being built to help protect jobs and allow the club to continue retail activities while the main club shop, located in the Gallowgate Stand, is renovated.

Castore now controls the retail side of Newcastle under a kit manufacturing arrangement inked in 2021. The club has secured an early exit from the Castore agreement, allowing Adidas to join for the 2024-25 season.

Newcastle have agreed to a five-year deal with Adidas for roughly £40 million per season. It will allow the club to retake control of its retail and merchandising.

As a result, the current Castore-operated club shop in the Gallowgate Stand at St James’ Park will be ‘comprehensively rebuilt’ after the 2023-24 season. The restoration will take place during the off-season, between May and June 2024.

The reopening of the St James’ Park club shop after refurbishment will coincide with the unveiling of Newcastle United’s new Adidas kit for the 2024-25 season.

The club also hopes to complete development of the St James’ STACK fan zone at Strawberry Place in time for the summer, when St James’ Park will host England’s national team on June 3 ahead of the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany.

The fan zone is scheduled to open in June 2024.
