Championship play-off final could move as Man Utd captain makes Sunderland admission

Man Utd captain admits Sunderland

Not that Sunderland will likely be involved, but the Championship play-off final could be pushed back a week, according to reports.

That might be the case if promotion hopes and FA Cup semi-finalists Coventry City make it to the cup final, according to the Daily Mail. If this is the case, the play-off final will be moved seven days later to Sunday, June 2. Coventry are now eighth in the Championship, but they have a game in hand and are only four points behind Norwich City, who occupy the final position.

According to the Daily Mail, Coventry’s extraordinary FA Cup run and outstanding league record have presented significant logistical concerns for the EFL, as both finals are planned for the same weekend, on May 25 and 26.

“To make matters worse, Wembley is also scheduled to host the Champions League final on June 1, thus the EFL has reserved the national stadium for the following day as a backup date for the Championship play-off final. The EFL will only postpone the Championship play-off final by a week if Coventry is certain to play, having already reached the FA Cup final, therefore the decision will be made late and may cause difficulty for their opponents.

That is why" - Bruno Fernandes lifts lid on Manchester United penalty success - Manchester Evening News

Coventry City will meet Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium in April, and United captain Bruno Fernandes has spoken about Championship football ahead of the match. He also revealed a link to Sunderland.

Fernandes commented on the semi-final draw, saying, “It’s a tough game. I see some of their games since my cook at home is a Sunderland supporter, so I occasionally watch Championship games with him at home.

“So for some periods, they have good guys on the ball. They are really difficult to play against physically. We saw it against the Wolves. I believe they won the game in three minutes, with 97 and 90 plus 10, or something similar. So we know what to expect, and we can’t go there expecting to be astonished by what they deliver us.

“We have to do the same as we did today on running, on tracking back or fighting spirit and everything, and then put the quality we have put on in the 30 minutes today for longer spells in the game.”
