‘The club that gave me everything’ – Midfielder eyes return to Southampton

In an interview with TyC Sports, Southampton forward Carlos Alcaraz stated that he plans to return to previous club Racing in the near future.
Southampton recruited Alcaraz from Racing in January 2023 for a reported £12 million. Since then, he has appeared 47 times for the Saints, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in his one year there.

However, after being declared surplus to requirements at St. Mary’s, he was loaned out on transfer deadline day in January, joining Italian giants Juventus until the end of the season.

Since joining Juventus, his career has been quite stop-and-start, with only four appearances before suffering a hamstring injury.

If the Serie A club wants to make his loan permanent, they have a €49.5 million buy option, according to reports.

However, while his immediate future is still being discussed, the 21-year-old has spoken out about his long-term objectives. In an interview with TyC Sports, he confirmed his desire to return to racing later in his career.

“I’d love to come back. I’m not sure if I’ll be a reference like Diego [Milito] or Licha [Lopez], but I hope to return in the future,” he remarked.

“In Argentina, Racing is the club that gave me everything, it’s the one that has the priority and they’ll always have my yes.”

What about Alcaraz’ future at Southampton?

Although it’s good to return to where it all began, attention will soon shift to where Alcaraz will play football next season.

It appears doubtful that he will return to Southampton after seeing top-flight football with both the Saints and a team like Juventus. As a result, if a club in one of Europe’s major leagues expresses interest and Southampton is not promoted from the Championship, an exit is possible.

It appears equally unlikely that Juventus will use the option to purchase Alcaraz, especially given the asking price of about €50 million. If they want the play, they will likely negotiate a contract to buy him for less, but this will only be successful if Southampton price.
