Newcastle United man reveals strong desire to leave Saint James Park

Lloris Karius, Newcastle United’s backup goalkeeper, is expected to leave the club during the forthcoming transfer

window, with Italy appearing as a possible destination.

The German shot-stopper has voiced a desire to relocate to Italy, particularly to be closer to his family, as his wife works there as a writer.

Karius has not been a regular for the Magpies this season, making only one appearance in the English top division.

That appearance came against Arsenal last month, in which he allowed four goals.

Karius is keen on a move away from Newcastle

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the 30-year-old confirmed his interest in Serie A, citing his constant coverage of the league.

He acknowledged that moving to Italy would be helpful to him.

He stated:

“Of course, it would be an excellent solution if there were suitable possibilities for me, regardless of proximity to my family.

“I’ve always been interested in Serie A, but it’s too early to discuss the future. Claudio (Marchisio) and I are friends; I know him well and believe he is the proper person.

“I want to return to being number one, as I was until the last two years. When I play well, I know I have the potential to perform at the greatest levels again.

“When I arrived, they already had a starting goalie, which made things difficult for me. I absolutely want to play more, which is why I practice hard every day.

The former Liverpool goalkeeper joined Newcastle in September 2022, initially with a contract until January 2023, which was later extended.

As his contract is set to end in June, negotiations about his departure have begun.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are apparently interested in signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, with manager Eddie Howe an admirer of the player.
