Only 15 touches: Sunderland ace who ‘really struggled’ v QPR shouldn’t get any more chances

One Sunderland player has run out of chances following another poor performance against QPR.

Sunderland avoided loss for the eighth time in a row this weekend, but that did not prevent them from putting on another awful display in front of their home crowd.

The Black Cats drew 0-0 with QPR, leaving them six points below the top half of the Championship table.

Anthony Patterson was the only player to emerge with any genuine plaudits from the encounter, as Luis Hemir Semedo maintained his streak of being utterly invisible.

The teenager made a promising cameo against Swansea City last month, and as a result, he was given his first start since the opener against Norwich.

Hemir has started three of Sunderland’s previous four games, but has been ’embarrassing’ and frequently pushed off the field after barely an hour.

It was no different against QPR yesterday, with the Sunderland Echo giving him a 4 rating for his performance. Journalist Phil Smith wrote: “Recalled to the starting XI in the hope that Sunderland would provide some opportunities for him, but he struggled to get into the game.

“Nicked the ball in one or two decent areas but couldn’t capitalise, and was taken off having not troubled the opposition goalkeeper.”
