Alan Shearer is spot on with what has to happen at Newcastle United now

Alan Shearer watched as Manchester City triumphed 2-0.

Two Silva efforts deflected cruelly to put the home side ahead.

Alan Shearer, like all Newcastle United fans, knew that this was a highly possible final scoreline. However, the method of the goals is rubbing extra salt into the wound.

With thoughts shifting to what happens now, the NUFC legend has a very clear vision of what will happen in the future, as well as what needs to happen.

Alan Shearer spoke to BBC Sport following Newcastle United’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Manchester City:

“Manchester City have a 38-game unbeaten streak at the Etihad.”

“When you are the opposite team coming here, you must consider [that].

“Isak had chances in both halves, but nothing. Dan Burn passed up a chance to shoot.

“You have to take those half-chances in order to have any chance of success.

“This season has been challenging for Newcastle.

“However, there have been mitigating factors.

“The injuries, particularly for Nick Pope and Joelinton. They miss both of those players greatly.

“Eddie Howe still has a lot of credit in the bank.

“Whatever happens this season, whether they finish mid-table or qualify for Europe, Eddie Howe will be Newcastle’s manager next season.”
