The Charlton Athletic players may never play for club again

Charlton Athletic appeared to be facing a tough relegation struggle after failing to win a single game between November 28th and February 27th.

However, the appointment of Nathan Jones last month, who managed Southampton in the Premier League just last season, has calmed the ship at the Valley, and the Addicks look set to finish comfortably mid-table in League One.

The Addicks fans will be looking for an interesting 2024/25 season under Jones, a manager with plenty of Championship experience.

The reinforcements the London club may bring in during the summer transfer window could determine how well Jones’ team performs next season, but there will also be exits from the Valley.

Forward Alfie May, who might win League One’s golden boot, is one player the Addicks will undoubtedly want to keep this summer.

With that in mind, here are the three Addicks players the club may realistically and voluntarily sell for a transfer fee this summer:

Ashley Maynard-Brewer

Maynard-Brewer has made more appearances for the Addicks this season than any other goalkeeper in the club, however since Jones’ arrival, he has been demoted to backup shot-stopper, despite being the number one under previous manager Michael Appleton.

Appearances 25
Clean sheets 2
Saves 80
Save percentage 66.1

At 24, and having previously been first choice, Maynard-Brewer may be keen to leave the club in the summer, while the Addicks may be looking to cash in on a player who appears to be out of the manager’s plans.

Maynard-Brewer’s contract with the Valley expires in the summer of 2026, allowing the club to seek a reasonable amount for their player.

Miles Leaburn

In October, the Daily Mail reported that Brentford and Chelsea were interested in signing the Addicks forward.

In early December, the 20-year-old sensation underwent surgery for a hamstring injury sustained during a match against Cheltenham Town on November 28th. He was ruled out for five months.

Leaburn’s final goal for the Addicks came against non-league team Cray Valley Paper Mills in an FA Cup first round replay, which the League One club won 6-1.

During the summer transfer window, Jones and co may find it tough to maintain the services of their talented kid, while his injury issues may mean the Addicks are slightly more prepared to trade their man than previously.

Terry Taylor

Taylor, who joined the Addicks from Burton Albion in League One last summer, may be on his way out.

The midfielder did not play in the Addicks lineup for Appleton after September, and there is little indication that he is in Jones’ plans.

Taylor has not made the kind of effect he would like since his arrival in the Valley, and the Addicks may be eager to move him because of his lack of impact.

The 22-year-old, who has represented Scotland and Wales at international youth level, is under contract with the Addicks until 2026, after signing a three-year agreement in the summer.
