OPTA believes Newcastle United will end the season in eighth place after running the remaining matchups through their ‘supercomputer.’
They expect us to finish the season with 57 points, five points behind Manchester United (6th), one point behind Chelsea (who they now predict will finish 7th), and a couple points clear of West Ham (9th) and Brighton (10th).
The statisticians also believe Man City will win the title with 86 points, with Liverpool second, Arsenal third, and Spurs finishing in the top four ahead of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
According to OPTA’s current forecasts, the following will be the final Premier League table based on the remaining fixtures this season:
1.Man City – 86.07 points
2.Liverpool – 85.29 points
3.Arsenal – 82.72 points
4.Tottenham – 70.23 points
5.Aston Villa – 69.63 points
6.Man Utd – 62.41 points
7.Chelsea – 58.84 points
8.Newcastle – 57.35 points
9.West Ham – 55.47 points
10.Brighton – 54.61 points
Last night’s 3-2 defeat at Chelsea was a real setback, gifting three points to a European rival, but we do have a kind run in, facing six bottom-half sides, along with West Ham, Brighton and Spurs still to come at St James’ Park.
