There have been numerous suggestions that Newcastle United may seek to replace Eddie Howe as manager for next season.
Howe greatly outperformed with the group he had last season, which has obviously increased the pressure on him, and there is now a level of expectation at Newcastle.
According to GiveMeSport, journalist Ben Jacobs believes Newcastle could consider Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi as a potential replacement for Howe.
Newcastle have a list of potential Howe replacements
In recent weeks, it has emerged that Newcastle are considering Julian Nagelsmann as a manager, albeit his lack of Premier League experience may be a worry.
Instead, Newcastle could attempt to sign someone from Brighton, as they have already done with Dan Ashworth and Dan Burn in recent seasons.
The Italian has been particularly impressive on the south coast, helping Brighton qualify for the Europa League after a fantastic sixth-place finish last season, albeit their domestic form has recently dipped.
Real Madrid was also said to be interested in the former Sassuolo manager, who has previously been touted as a footballing ‘genius’, so Newcastle would face stiff competition if they hope to replace Howe.
Regarding De Zerbi, Jacobs stated, “If they were to draw up a succession plan, I believe there would be a few names.” I would not rule out Lopetegui. De Zerbi will be in high demand, and Newcastle will believe they can compete.
