Chelsea do not have to worry about Manchester City acquiring one of their alleged targets just yet.
According to HITC, Chelsea has expressed interest in AC Milan forward Rafael Leao.
However, there had been suggestions that City were also interested in and preparing a massive €150 million (£127.9 million) approach for the 24-year-old, which Fabrizio Romano has now dismissed. In a post for CaughtOffside, the transfer expert stated that “no talks” are taking place and that no €150 million bid is being prepared for his signing.
It is wonderful news for Chelsea, but they may still struggle to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Leao has said that his future lies with Milan, dealing a blow to possible suitors.
Manchester City not preparing bid for Chelsea target Rafael Leao
Chelsea does not have to be concerned about City for the time being if they want to sign Leao this summer.
Again, the player’s current situation makes a move to Stamford Bridge doubtful, but if the Blues can strike a deal for him, he would be an amazing addition.
Leao would significantly strengthen Chelsea’s offensive, surpassing someone like Mykhailo Mudryk, who has only three league goals this season.
Leao hasn’t fared much better, scoring four times, but he did manage 15 goals in Serie A previous season. He is still an extremely dangerous dribbler. According to WhoScored, the Portugal international averages two dribbles per game, the highest among Milan’s players.
Finally, while Leao has not been at his best in front of goal this season, it is understandable why Chelsea would want him. However, regrettably for the Blues, it does not appear that they will be able to convince the former Lille man to move west London this summer.
