Eddie Howe now reveals Newcastle United frustration

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is sure that his players will finish the season on a high, but is aware that discontent is rising among the players one year after making it to the Champions League.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe acknowledges that his side is “frustrated” at how far the Magpies have dropped from Champions League contention in the Premier League.

After an injury-plagued season, exacerbated by Sandro Tonali’s lengthy suspension, Newcastle are fighting for a spot in the Europa League or Europa Conference League in the last top-flight games.

Last weekend, the Magpies beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 to reach 40 points before early March, which used to be celebrated by fans at St James’ Park, but Howe says that can’t be used as a barometer for success.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s game against Chelsea, Howe said: “Football changes extremely quickly these days. Nowadays, images of your own squad disappear in minutes.

“So photographs of your own squad disappear in minutes these days. Look, we are completely aware of our current location and our desired destination. And the team that we hope to be.”

If Newcastle qualify for the Europa League or Europa Conference League this season, it will still be a significant achievement in the eyes of the fans who enjoy their excursions to the continent. However, Howe believes his players are hungry for more than that.

He went on to say, “There is a sense of irritation within ourselves, but there is always perspective in the back of your mind, and you must have it. You have to be realistic and consider the problems we’ve experienced this year. We have to handle all of those things while also attempting to propel the team forward since there’s no point in expecting anything other than progress from your team.”
