Newcastle have done something no other Premier League team has managed this year, they could break the record

Newcastle United have the opportunity to make history this season by accomplishing something no other Premier League team has done before.

Since Eddie Howe took over over two years ago, Newcastle has been a fantastic team to watch because of their high energy and high intensity style of play, which sees them attack with purpose.

As shown in this graphic from The Athletic, Newcastle might be the first Premier League team to have 21 different scorers in a season; they currently lead the way with 19.

Newcastle could make Premier League history

Manchester United currently holds the league record for the maximum number of different goal scorers, with 20, established in the 2012-13 season when they won their final title under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Newcastle now needs only two more players to score in the next 11 games of the season to break the record, or one to equal the record while still going down in history.

Goalkeepers Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, and Loris Karius are notable examples of those who have yet to score, but Elliot Anderson and Lewis Hall have also played minutes without scoring.

What will have surely aided their chances is Newcastle’s 8-0 victory over Sheffield United in September, in which eight different players scored and Kieran Trippier assisted three times.

Newcastle still have a lot to play for this season

Newcastle can not only go down in history for their goal scorers this season, but Howe’s team can also make it a memorable season, with the FA Cup on the line and European football a definite possibility.

The Champions League appears to be just out of reach, with Aston Villa pulling away in recent weeks, but Newcastle is only four points behind sixth place, which may see them qualify for the Europa League.

That would still be regarded a tremendous season for Newcastle’s owners, who did not expect to get into the top four for another few seasons, putting them well ahead of schedule.

Given the anticipated roster revamp, they might close the season on a high note, paving the way for what could be Newcastle’s most significant summer transfer window in modern history.
