According to Amanda Staveley, Newcastle United is looking into ways to implement a multi-club ownership model and will consider ideas from all around the world.
Amanda Staveley, Newcastle United’s co-owner, has disclosed that she supports multi-club ownership models and that they are looking for ways to expand their present structure. Clubs with multi-club ownership structures have grown significantly in recent years, with the City Football Group, which includes Manchester City, Girona, Troyes, Melbourne City, and New York City FC among its 13 clubs, leading the way.
A multi-club structure can assist clubs in developing an identity across multiple clubs in various nations and regions, as well as signing, growing, and nurturing talent under one umbrella. While Newcastle United is yet to follow suit, co-owner Amanda Staveley has revealed that they are looking for new teams and will most likely join the trend.
At the Bloomberg Power Players event, Staveley stated, “We are very much looking at the multi-club model.” Football includes multi-club teams. It’s quite beneficial to be able to have and train guys who aren’t on your roster.
“The UEFA rules are changing, so we’ll see what happens. The dynamics around the possibility of having a club have altered drastically throughout last year.
“I am still a huge fan of the multi-club model. Many other Premier League opponents and friends have multi-club ties, but it must be regarded in context.
“We looked at Belgium and several other European markets. We looked pretty much everywhere, including Asia, Australia, and Brazil. We have looked at every market, and obtaining players through our academy system and multi-club model would be extremely beneficial in terms of allowing us to buy and having players involved earlier in our journey.”
City’s multi-club concept has recently come under scrutiny, with rumors claiming they are preparing to recruit winger Savio from Girona. Savio is only on loan at the surprise La Liga championship challengers, having come from Ligue 2 side Troyes, a City Football Group team, despite never playing a game for the French club. Newcastle United, meantime, saw Premier League clubs vote on whether to prohibit loan movements between clubs with the same owners; however, the resolution failed to achieve the fourteen-vote barrier required.
