Newcastle United star makes ‘difficult’ injury claim after being ruled out for three months

Newcastle United defender Sven Botman has reflected on his time on the sidelines.

Sven Botman believes he is returning to form for Newcastle United after missing three months due to a knee injury. Botman suffered an ACL injury in September but miraculously continued to play for two more matches before collapsing. Newcastle tried to pinpoint the ailment and pondered surgery, but Botman recovered and returned to the starting lineup in late December.

When questioned if he was aware of the severity of the injury, Botman replied, “Well, I played with it, so no!

“I greatly underestimated it. Fortunately, I’ve never had such a serious injury before, but it’s been really difficult to recover and adjust to things like the bodies around you, the pace of the Premier League, and the caliber of opponents.

“It’s not as simple as people think. When you get back in shape, everyone assumes you’re the same old Sven. I took some time, games, and minutes, but I believe I’m returning to my old self.”

“It’s difficult to get back into your rhythm again,” Botman told the club programme. “I intended to be at my best in the first game I started again, but that wasn’t possible.

“That’s what I’ve realised now – hopefully not for the next injury – but it was a good lesson for me that I can’t expect to be at my best in the first game back.

“It’s simply not possible to return to your peak performance after such a long absence. But that’s something I learnt on my own, and it only makes me a better player.
