Bayern Munich are fast realizing that replacing Alphonso Davies with Theo Hernandez from AC Milan would not be as simple as they had hoped.
While Theo prepares to face Slavia Praha with Milan in the first leg of the Europa League last 16 at San Siro tomorrow night, which he will most likely do wearing the captain’s armband, his future beyond this season has become a source of discussion.
Bayern Munich is reportedly considering a big-money bid for the Frenchman, as they prepare to lose Alphonso Davies. In general, it appears that Milan will struggle to keep its players, with Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan also in demand.
In his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano commented on the Theo-to-Bayern rumours, stating that it would take a world record sum to get Milan to sell.
“One more word on Bayern: Alphonso Davies is still a target for Real Madrid as long as the price is appropriate. But what about prospective options for Bayern at left-back?
“Bayern has been monitoring Theo Hernandez for years, but they have yet to make contact with AC Milan or his agency. So far, nothing is concrete, and we should respect Milan’s decision.
“Hernandez is an important player for them, and any club that wants to try to sign him should pay a record sum for a left-back. This would not be ‘simple’ at all.
Theo Hernandez is one of the stars of this Milan team and one of the greatest in the world in his position, and we discussed his predicament in a recent feature, including his asking price, extension situation, and prospective successors.
