Sunderland player is expected to quit the club this summer after only one year there.
Sunderland are expected to undergo some changes this summer.
Sunderland are expected to hire a new, permanent manager to replace interim coach Mike Dodds, who has lost two of his first two games in charge.
And there are to be some sweeping changes to the playing staff, with names like Jack Clarke appearing likely to leave, as well as Dan Ballard, who has piqued Everton’s attention.
Midfielder Bradley Dack is another name that has been linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light this summer.
Bradley Dack tipped to leave Sunderland after injury-riddled season
Dack, 30, joined Sunderland as a free agent last summer after being released by Blackburn Rovers.
However, the Englishman has only appeared 12 times in the Championship for Sunderland this season, scoring once and assisting once.
Due to injuries, he has yet to play in 2024, but he is expected to return soon.
And the Sunderland Echo has now labeled Dack as ‘likely to leave’ this summer, writing:
“The former Blackburn Rovers player has been out for the majority of the season with an injury. Dack’s contract expires in June. Sunderland does have the option to extend the deal, but that appears unlikely at the moment.”
Dack starred for Blackburn Rovers in the 2018/19 season, scoring 15 goals and assisting seven as the club achieved promotion from League One under Tony Mowbray, who earlier regarded Dack as a ‘genius’ footballer.
However, Mowbray was given a major blow the following season when a cruciate ligament injury ended Dack’s season, the first of two similar ailments that have afflicted Dack subsequently.
A gamble for the Black Cats, and one that’s not paid off
Going into this season, Dack’s reunion with Mowbray felt like a natural fit.
Last season, Dack managed to regain his health, appearing 27 times in the Championship and scored four goals for Blackburn.
As a result, Mowbray and Sunderland were enticed to bring him to Wearside, despite the fact that he has once again struggled with injuries and has played sparingly, which the club was aware of.
Although Sunderland have the option of extending his stay for another year, it appears that Dack will leave this summer, as reported by the Sunderland Echo.
What happens next for Dack remains to be seen, as does whether he will play again for the Black Cats; even if he recovers and puts in some solid performances, Sunderland appears unlikely to want to keep him due to his age and injury history.
So it appears like Dack will begin on another story next season.
At 30, he still has some years ahead of him, and if he can find stability with his injuries, he’ll be a valuable addition to whoever contracts him.
He’s demonstrated in the past that he’s a player who can truly dominate games in the Championship and League One, so expect him to get a lot of attention if he becomes a free agency in the summer.
