Newcastle appear to be prepping for next season, regardless of whether a late-season drive takes them into Europe in 2024/25.
Eddie Howe’s team has suffered a terrible run of injuries this season, derailing their efforts to win both the Champions League and domestically.
Newcastle will hope their luck changes in 24/25
The first-team’s terrible luck is likely to be considered by owners, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, as they conduct a season evaluation.
It may only keep Howe in the managerial hot seat for another year, but silverware will undoubtedly be required before he is given the keys to guide the team to the next level.
That might be easier if the club can sign marauding midfielder Joelinton to a new contract.
It was expected that the Brazilian, who has only one year left on his contract, would be one of the players to leave the club this summer, creating a huge vacuum in Newcastle’s midfield.
However, according to The Telegraph (subscription required), Amanda Staveley has taken over contract discussions and is looking to offer the player a new deal for roughly £180,000 per week, bringing him in line with the club’s other top earners.
