The Buffalo Bills have many of options for what they may do with the No. 28 overall pick in the NFL Draft, but receiver appears to be a position of considerable need.
Granted, receiving has been a long-standing need, but it appears to be especially critical this offseason. Gabe Davis, the Bills’ second option for quite some time, is ready to enter free agency, and all indications are that he will not return. Even Stefon Diggs, one of the league’s greatest receivers since joining Buffalo in 2020, is coming off the worst stretch of his career, having not had a single 100-yard game since Week 6 of last season.
As a result, many expect the Bills to use their first-round pick to add much-needed depth at the position. Fortunately for those who want to see that happen, the Bills conducted extensive research on some of the draft’s best receivers during the NFL Scouting Combine last week.
Texas receiver Xavier Worthy, who ran a record 4.21-second 40-yard sprint on Saturday, believes he would fit in nicely with the Bills.
“Josh Allen is a great quarterback. Tough, runs hard, and has an excellent deep ball. “He throws the ball well,” Worthy told reporters, according to the Bills website. “I feel like I’d fit in well with the Bills offense. They have a pro-style system, as does [Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian], where they run first and pass second, so I think I’d fit in well.”
It wasn’t just Worthy who discussed his fit with the Bills; several other WR prospects did as well. Perhaps the most famous of the lot is LSU’s Brian Thomas Jr., a popular mock draft pick for the Bills who discussed his chat with offensive coordinator Joe Brady.
“We were just talking a lot of football, about his time at LSU,” Thomas Jr. told reporters. “I believe I would fit nicely in the Bills offense. Joe Brady was at LSU at the time, and I liked his offense, so I think I’d fit in well there.”
Other receivers that have met with the Bills include Florida State’s Keon Coleman, Oregon’s Troy Franklin, and South Carolina’s Xavier Legette.
