Journalist confirms Milan working behind the scenes to bring 44-year-old manager

According to Alessandro Jacobone, Milan is working with the lights turned off on Brighton coach De Zerbi, however Thiago Motta remains a strong possibility for the post at San Siro.

Milan coach Stefano Pioli is under contract at the Stadio Meazza until 2025, but mounting claims from Italian media suggest the Rossoneri are looking for a new manager for 2024-25.

Motta, De Zerbi, and Conte are thought to be the primary candidates for the position, and Italian journalist Alessandro Jacobone has supplied the most recent details on the Bologna coach and RDZ.

Motta’s contract at Stadio Dall’Ara expires in June, and Milan is also interested in Rossoblu star Joshua Zirkzee, who has 10 goals in 26 Serie A games this season.

“It’s interesting that Milan is using a courtship tactic to make the player feel the club’s desire to bring him to the Rossoneri,” Jacobone told Calciomercato.it, as reported by Sempremilan.

“I know this has been appreciated, but it is too early to judge if it will be enough. However, I am confident that he would prefer to continue playing in Serie A, and pairing him with Thiago Motta would be excellent for a player looking to make the step up to a large squad. Zirkzee has demonstrated that he is not afraid of the San Siro and could do so with a coach who has elevated him; it would be an excellent comfort zone for his development. I also understand that Bayern does not want to bring him back home”.

Regarding De Zerbi, Jacobone continued, “I know Milan is working with the lights turned off on De Zerbi.” They know he wants to return to Italy. Let’s not forget that his deputy is Andrea Maldera, who is well-known in Milan. The Rossoneri want to try, but there are obstacles: there is a €13 million clause, which sounds like a lot for a coach, but if you want to build for the future, you cannot stop at this negotiating amount. “Milan will try.”
