Sunderland are preparing for their Championship encounter against Leicester at the Stadium of Light, despite the fact that both teams are without several players.
The Black Cats will be hoping to rebound from Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Norwich, their fourth in a row. Leicester, the league leaders, have also been in dismal form, losing their past three league games against Middlesbrough, Leeds, and QPR.
Here is the latest Sunderland and Leicester injury and team news before of their match at the Stadium of Light:
1. Patrick Roberts (Sunderland) – OUT
Roberts was forced off in the closing stages of Sunderland’s game against Huddersfield with a hamstring injury last month and is yet to return to first-team training.
2. Jannik Vestergaard (Leicester) – OUT
The centre-back has started 32 of Leicester’s 35 league games this season but will serve the second match of his two-game suspension for picking up 10 yellow cards this season.
3. Bradley Dack (Sunderland) – OUT
Dack hasn’t featured since Sunderland’s win over Hull on Boxing Day due to a hamstring issue. The 30-year-old has been stepping up his recovery at the Academy of Light but is not yet in contention for selection.
4. Ricardo Pereira (Leicester) – OUT
Pereira has started 30 league games for Leicester this season but missed Saturday’s defeat against QPR with a hamstring injury. The full-back isn’t set to return until after this month’s international break. Photo: Michael Regan
5. Jack Clarke (Sunderland) – OUT
Clarke, who has scored 15 league goals this season, is not set to return until April after sustaining an ankle ligament injury.
6. Kasey McAteer (Leicester) – DOUBT
The 22-year-old winger, who has scored five league goals this season, missed Leicester’s game against QPR on Saturday with a knock and is a doubt for the Sunderland fixture.
7. Aji Alese (Sunderland) – OUT
After starting three successive matches at the start of this year, Alese suffered another injury setback in January. The defender has also been stepping up his recovery, yet the club won’t want to rush him back too soon.
8. Dennis Praet (Leicester) – OUT
Praet was forced off in the first half of Leicester’s match against QPR on Saturday and appeared to be holding his hamstring.
9. Corry Evans (Sunderland) – OUT
Evans is nearing his long-awaited return after suffering an ACL injury in January last year. The midfielder has been training with the first-team group but is set to feature for the under-21s side before being named in the senior squad.
10. Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester) – OUT
Ndidi hasn’t featured since December due to a leg injury. The midfielder, who has made 21 Championship appearances this season, has returned to light training but the Sunderland match is set to come too soon.
11. Elliot Embleton (Sunderland) – OUT
After returning from a thigh injury, Embleton rolled his ankle in training last month and is not yet ready to make his comeback.
12. Dennis Cirkin (Sunderland) – OUT
Cirkin has been sidelined since November with a hamstring injury and underwent surgery on the issue. The full-back isn’t expected to return until around April time at the earliest.
13. Niall Huggins (Sunderland) – OUT
The full-back was stretchered off during Sunderland’s 3-0 defeat against Coventry in December and is set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
