Breaking news: Premier League make official Newcastle decision for Wolves clash

Tim Robinson has been named as the match referee for Newcastle United’s Premier League encounter versus Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James Park.

After defeating Blackburn Rovers 4-3 on penalties on Tuesday to advance to the FA Cup quarter-finals, the Magpies return to league play, looking to rebound from last week’s 4-1 loss at Arsenal and win their first home game in 2024.The Premier League has confirmed the officials for Newcastle United’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Robinson will oversee his third Magpies game this season, following a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace in October and a 3-0 defeat at Everton in December. Both of his Wolves outings resulted in triumphs for Gary O’Neil’s side over Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Newcastle and Wolves drew 2-2 at Molineux in October, with O’Neil criticising the officials for awarding the Magpies a first-half penalty when Fabian Schar went down under a challenge from Hwang Hee-chan.

“There were no penalties in the first half.” This is a disgraceful decision. Terrible. It was a bad on-field judgment, and it’s unfortunate that VAR did not interfere. I believe they got it severely wrong. He goes to clear the ball and makes very little contact with Schar, just a glance of the boot.

“Schar is already on his way down, and the ball strikes Channy’s (Chan) other boot before he ever makes contact with Schar, so Chan technically receives the ball before Schar does. That’s why it was a bad decision.

Eddie Howe’s side led twice at Molineux thanks to Callum Wilson, but were pegged back by Mario Lemina and Hee-Chan Hwang goals. Wolves recently overcame Newcastle in the Premier League table, and they now sit eighth, one point ahead.
